Kogi Korean BBQ
Kogi (pronounced with a hard ‘g’) means meat in korean. And koreans have made built-in table barbecues very popular and it’s even flowing into mainstream american diets very slowly. Thirty year old Mark Manguera (Filipino) asked his sister in law (korean) what she thought of the idea of korean bbq on a taco. And the idea took off. They got themselves a taco truck and began serving their fusion tacos to club goers late at night. It didn’t making a killing at first, but now they have legions of fans and use twitter to announce their next stop. How cool!
“After celebrating a Nov. 20 soft opening, the roving vehicle has emerged as a social-networking juggernaut, drawing 300 to 800 people each time it parks.”
The food. The tacos and other delights may be filled with “juicy meat flavored with slightly spicy, delicately tangy Korean “salsa roja,” topped with cilantro and onions as well as cabbage slaw with soy-sesame chili, and cupped in a soft corn tortilla. It can taste awfully good, especially when your stomach has spent two hours priming. Or perhaps it’s the exquisite cultural co-mingling inherent in the food that draws crowds; the only-in-L.A. combination of two of the city’s most beloved ethnic cuisines.”
Yeah, so basically, an asian kid growing up in LA had a drunken revelation and they ran with it. I wish I was in california right now. I would kill for a taco from the kogi truck. There’s a link to the full article below.

I live in California and I read the article when it was published… Also I happen to be Korean, but born in L.A.. My oldest (27) says her friends try to track this taco truck down… Somehow I can’t imagine a Korean taco….but hey, the guy was pretty savvy to come up w/the idea.. Kudos to him.
Chrissy: That’s so funny that your oldest’s friends track down the taco truck. If I ever visit my brother out there, I’m definitely taking a day to hunt them down as well
yep, they google him on their cells…a bit hard to do especially if u work and the truck is a hundred miles away! lol
Chrissy: hehehe. I also like the name Kogi truck. I love that it’s means a meat truck. Meat!
