Lean Cuisine Salmon with Basil
I have never had fish from a frozen entree before except for battered fish. Those I usually make into sandwiches similar to McDonald’s filet o’ fish. So, I’m not sure what struck me about this entree but I was willing to try it. The salmon with basil is a part of their spa cuisine classics line. It is wild salmon, whole wheat orzo pasta, spinach & carrots in a basil sauce. When I looked at the box, I couldn’t figure out what these yellow root’ish vegetables were. The description only mentioned spinach & carrots for the veggies. When I looked at the ingredients, there it was - yellow carrots. I had never heard of yellow carrots before. I wondered about them. I wasn’t trying to diet the day I had this entree but it doesn’t hurt to know that it only has 220 kcals and 6g of fat. That’s pretty darn good.
My opinion. First, just the salmon part. It was not very appetizing. It tasted like dry’ish canned salmon. There was no freshness about it. It had a fishy flavor that I didn’t love. The rest, a medly of orzo and veggies, was good. The vegetables tasted fresh and the yellow carrots were just as good as the usual orange ones. I don’t recall clearly but I think there was a slight distinction in flavor but neither out did the other. The basil sauce tasted of fresh basil and it accented the orzo nicely. The whole wheat part of the orzo was not outstanding. That’s a good thing in my book. It did not muddy up or drown out flavors. If they sold the entree minus the salmon, I’d probably get it again. Unfortunately I don’t have that option so I’m just going to avoid it all together. So if you’re looking for fresh seafood, don’t look here. Go elsewhere to Eat Something Good!
